After completing a successful 27-year career with Xerox Corporation, Jan founded J Powell Group. The company is dedicated to enabling organizations to develop more productive teams, leaders at all levels and effective communication skills. During Jan’s management career, her efforts were focused on these areas. Jan received numerous awards for leading sales and marketing teams to overachieve their goals, and for her dedication to teamwork. Jan’s career experiences have enabled her to understand what makes an effective leader and how to inspire the highest levels of team accomplishment.
As an executive with Xerox, Jan held national and regional management positions in various sales, marketing, and technical organizations. In these roles, she participated in all aspects of the business life cycle and provided leadership to both emerging and mature teams. A significant part of Jan’s career was spent in creating and leading change organizations within the company. This included leading remote teams and virtual teams. As more companies migrate to this strategy, it is critical to understand the unique dynamics of these new team structures. Jan also has experience in the issues surrounding downsizing and constantly changing organizations. She facilitated national process improvement teams, trained numerous sales and technical employees, provided executive training at the corporate university, and made presentations to business executives, media and consultants.
As a professional speaker, Jan has shared her wisdom and experience with numerous organizations. These organizations include both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.
Jan has a fundamental value of giving back. She has taken her corporate leadership skills and applied them as a volunteer. Jan is active in her community, serving on various boards and leading volunteer organizations.
Jan has a Bachelor of Science in Speech from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. She is a professional member of the National Speakers Association and the American Society of Training and Development.
