Cheryl established her coaching practice, Color Outside the Lines, in 1998. She brings a strong communications background to her coaching. Cheryl holds Journalism and Communications degrees and is very proficient in listening to the story that is being told, as well as listening for the one that is not being shared. She is adept at recognizing recurring themes and key points, establishing relationships and building trust.
Her communications experience also plays a pivotal role in her capacity to ask clients the right questions, not to provide the answers. This approach ensures that they "own" the decisions made about their growth and development. Cheryl has coached Executives, Directors, Mid-level Managers, Project Managers and professional employees within organizations such as: GE, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Dupont, Parsons-Brickerhoff, EDS, MCI, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), USDA Forest Service, NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, and the DC Housing Finance Agency.
Cheryl received a BA in Journalism from Northeastern University in Boston and an MS in Communications from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana. She earned Professional Effectiveness Coach certification (CPEC) from New Ventures West and remains committed to ongoing learning and self-assessment in order to provide her clients with the most effective coaching. She holds qualification to administer and interpret the FIRO-B assessment, Skillscope 360 and the Strong Interest Inventory. She achieved Master Coach Certification with the International Coach Federation, and is pursuing a Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership.
Cheryl has been a panelist for International Coach Federation events. She has provided online chats about coaching for an international company and has been the featured speaker for several groups and organizations. She was the former Coach-in-Residence for the International Women's Career and Mentors' Network. IMDiversity.com included her thoughts about time management in the feature article, "Career Coaches Speak Out". Cheryl was selected in the first group of coaches to work with Ken Blanchard Coaching.com. She was selected to join the executive coaching pool and course facilitators for the Federal Executive Institute, a group that provides training and executive coaching to executives within the federal government.
Cheryl is currently a team coach/facilitator with Fannie Mae's Directors' Leadership Institute and also provides individual coaching to Directors. As coach/facilitator, she interprets 360 reports, offers feedback and provides a combination of individual and team coaching.
She was a coach/facilitator for one of EPA's Creative Leadership Groups. This is a nine-month experiential project that targets federal leaders at levels 14 and 15. Her group's theme was, "Leading from the Inside Out." Cheryl also provided coaching and 360 feedback to executives in EPA's Up/Down Feedback program. Her work with NASA/Goddard Space Center included coaching participants in the year-long Leadership Alchemy Program. Cheryl recently completed a team building project for the US Forest Services. She also provided individual coaching to the participants.
Cheryl specializes in improving interpersonal relationships and enhancing individual and team effectiveness. She has a strong desire to help individuals strive for continuous excellence. She
edited the Fannie Mae Career Development: Owning Your Career guidebook, and the info for a six-hour companion workshop. She also facilitated this workshop.
She authored, Your Peeves Are No Pets: Managing Life’s Annoyances©. She also offers teleclasses on SMART Goals and Life Purpose. Cheryl provides, one on one coaching, team coaching, coaching the coach and relationship management. She offers coaching in person and by phone.
She worked at GE under Jack Welch for ten years, rising to Manager of Marketing Communications. She then owned a marketing communications firm for 11 years. Sample clients included Citibank, RJR Nabisco, Pepco, Washington Gas and the National Institutes of Health.
